Challenges Continue as I Represent Ward 2

More than four years ago, Ward 2 voters elected me to represent them on the Warrenton Town Council by an overwhelming margin. I ran on a platform that neighborhoods matter, and as Warrenton negotiates the future, we should preserve the values that make Warrenton a small town and a great place to live.

The decision by the Town Council on a narrow 4-3 vote to approve an application by Amazon Web Services to build a data center at the eastern gateway of Town revealed a significant disconnect between the Council and its citizens. More recently, the Council approved a 386-unit apartment complex on the edge of town on our northern gateway. Data centers and large apartment complexes symbolize the sort of change most residents of Warrenton do not want. At stake is nothing less than the future of Warrenton as a small town. Also at risk are Ward 2 neighborhoods from future data centers, substations, and buried distribution lines.

The challenge to preserving our small town does not stop with data centers or large apartment complexes. The Comprehensive Plan lays out a vision that if realized would transform our tranquil town indistinguishable from other localities such as Reston, Ashburn, Gainesville, Leesburg, and Manassas.

I am running again to serve as your Ward 2 representative, I will continue to fight for preserving the qualities of our town that make Warrenton such a wonderful place to live.

In the days ahead, you will learn of my legislative record, wherein I questioned assumptions, actively communicated with constituents, treated residents’ concerns with dignity and respect, sought to ensure fiscal and budget responsibility, worked to keep neighborhoods safe. supported local business, and fought to retain Warrenton’s small town character
